Doggie Halloween 2005

Early on, very early on, I dressed Scooby up for Halloween. Looking back I feel so bad for making him go through that. Scooby was always a good sport about it, here are some pics of the one and only time I dressed him up.

Scooby dressed up as Scooby

Well as you can tell that costume didn’t quite fit him. So our doggie friend Willa wore the Scooby costume and I dressed Scooby up as Shaggy.

Then here is one of the both of ‘em.

Scooby and Willa as Shaggy and Scooby

So these days, Scooby might wear a bandana, but I don’t dress him up anymore. He really is quite the character, I will share some more stories of Scooby and his adventures soon. Have a great day!

Bath Time

Scooby was never very big on getting a bath. He doesn’t like to be in water. Scooby is an incredibly good dog and he will let me give him a bath. I remember his first bath like it was yesterday.

We had a bathroom with a tub on the first floor, and so that is where the baths took place. I would prepare, gather the shampoo and towels, and then I would call for Scooby.

Scooby BathThe first time he came right to me. I had to place him in the tub as he didn’t jump in all on his own.

The times afterward, I would have to drag him in, his paws would be straight out and they would slide along the tile floor as we made our way to the tub.

Scooby would stand there and as he is getting scrubbed down, he would look at me with that face, “But mom, I don’t want a bath…” Priceless.

As bath time came to an end and I am drying him off, he would jump out of the tub and shake. Once I opened the bathroom door, he would head for the doggie door and run outside. He would go to the farthest part of the backyard turn around, face the house, sit and pout.

Yep he would pout for hours. The first time this happened, I couldn’t believe it. I was getting to know Scoobys personality more and more. I would call for Scooby to come inside, I went out and petted him, and still he sat until he was ready to come back inside.

We only bathed a few more times at home, then I started taking him to a self-serve doggie wash. He is always excited to go somewhere, (even the vet) and once the bath is over, there is no pouting, we get back into the Tahoe and back home we go. It worked out much better for us. :)

Orientation

The day Scooby came home to live with us, was a great day!  As we left the shelter, he was so excited to get out of there! He practically dragged me down the sidewalk!

(All these years later, he still doesn’t walk well on a leash.)

As Scooby was getting familiar with his new home, he was sniffing everything, checking things out, running around just as happy as could be.

Then we went outside…

There was a twelve person in-ground jacuzzi that had a thin blue pool cover floating on the water. Scooby cut the corner and fell right in. We looked at each other then, rescued Scooby. It was a good lesson to of learned, even when that pool cover was on the concrete, Scooby would walk around it.

I later made him get in the water and showed him where the stairs were and to see if he could swim. He can, he didn’t like it but he can. That is all that really mattered.

Scooby LeeThere was also an in-ground trampoline that Scooby liked to play on. We then called it Scooby’s trampoline. :)

Scooby had one accident in the house during the housebreaking phase. He pooed in the bathroom right in front of the commode. How could I be upset about that? We showed him where the doggie door was and that was that. Thank goodness.

Food, wow could this dog eat! When Scooby came home with us, we could see four or five ribs on each side. So when food was out for him, he didn’t waste anytime and ate it all! Soon he realized that there is always going to be food for him so he felt more comfortable leaving some for later.

I have a really good feeling that Scooby came into my life for a reason, little did I know what was in store for me. :)

Promptings

Kody Bateman is one of my mentors.

I strive everyday to be more like the person that he is.

I have to share with you one of the stories from Kody’s book. I feel that it is a prompting because I have told this story a few times, and when I pick up this book and flipped it open, this story was staring right at me.

When my bother was killed, my father’s business was in a tough position. Money was very tight, and the expenses of an unexpected funeral were daunting. He remembers a lifelong friend, who wishes to remain anonymous, coming to the funeral. As he greeted my father he gave him an envelope and told him to put it in his suit pocket.

With everything going on Dad forgot about the envelope. Later that night while undressing, Dad noticed the envelope. He pulled it out and found enough money in it to pay for the entire funeral expense.

That man acted on a prompting and created a loyal friend for life. If you remember, my dad was the one who always carried extra cash in his money clip for the purpose of helping people. Almost every time we ate out as a  family, I saw my dad pay for some one else’s meal. Now in a time of need, someone showed up to do it for him. As the saying goes, what you send out is what you get back.

After hearing this story, I vowed that I would be one of those guys showing up with an envelope. That takes money.

After reading Kody’s book and attending several of his day-long workshops, I too have followed my promptings. Promptings are really neat, it’s a thought that crosses your mind and just as quick as it came, it could be gone. We all need to act on our promptings. If there is someone you haven’t talked to in a while and they cross your mind, pick up the phone and call them. There could be a reason they need to hear from you.

The Compound Effect

Darren Hardy is the Publisher of Success Magazine. A magazine that I have been reading and listening to every month for years now.

When I heard that Darren wrote a book, I couldn’t wait to read it. Darren shares his life story on how he was conditioned from a very young age for greatness.

We may not of all been so lucky, I know I wasn’t, but as Darren shares in his book, there are a lot of little things that if you do daily, will add up to greatness.

We have all heard the story about the penny that doubles everyday. Once that penny hits momentum, there is no stopping it!

You and I need to look at our businesses and our lives the same way. We all want something, desire something more, what are you doing to get it?

Take lots of little steps and you will achieve it!

A great friend of mine told me years ago, that “Slow is infinitely faster than stop.” I had to think about that one for a moment. As long as we constantly work on your business, ourselves, our relationships, we are making progress. The progress may not come as quickly as we would like, but as long as you never quit, you will get there.

I really enjoyed this book, it showed me how I don’t have to have everything done today, should that be me goal? Always. Be productive and do what you know you need to do today.

The Go-Giver

There are a few books that come into my life that really make a profound impact.

This is one of them.

I read the Go-Giver sometime ago, and it completely changed my mindset.

As I was building my business, I would attend networking events looking for that new team member. The one that was personable and really stood out from the crowd.

I never really found anyone like that, well I did, there were plenty of ‘em, but they were all doing the same thing I was.

Recruiting.

Once I read this book, and realized what I was doing, I immediately stopped. Now I meet others and learn all about them. I listen and see if there is something I can help them with. They may need someone or something and I have a connection for them.

Life is so much better when you focus on giving, just to give. No expectations in return. Once you have this mentality, your life will be blessed beyond your wildest dreams.

Bob Berg and John David Mann, shared with us some amazing stories and several aha! moments. I highly recommend this book to everyone. I honestly can’t think of a single person who could not benefit from The Go-Giver.

Delivering Happiness

I was fortunate to of heard Tony Hsieh as a keynote speaker at a conference I attended. I was memorized by all he had to say and all that he has accomplished.

Tony and his team has truly created a company culture that anyone would want to be apart of. Zappos is currently based in Las Vegas, (actually Henderson – I lived blocks away) and when they would interview someone for a position at Zappos, they would make sure that they had the skills needed for the position, but also to see if their personality was compatibility with the other team members. If the interviewee was from out of town, how they treated the driver was observed. You should always treat everyone with respect. Everyone.

Tony is living the good life now, but I love to read how others got to that good life. It wasn’t easy, there were tough decisions that had to be made. Tony made them, he never quit.

One of my favorite stores is this one. Tony and friends were out in the San Francisco area and it was late, room service had closed for the night and his friend wanted pizza. Zappos is known for their excellent customer service skills. Tony was being funny and suggested she call the 800 number to ask them for a pizza. Tony’s friend called Zappos and asked for a pizza. Tony and others were laughing (quietly) in the background as the Zappos Customer Service Rep quickly thought of what to do. When the Customer Service Rep returned, she had all the closest pizza places that were still opened and delivered. Talk about outstanding customer service!!!

This story alone, I had to read the book. To create a company culture like Zappos is something that every company should strive for. If you work for yourself, or lead a team, imagine how on fire your team would be!

Now don’t call Zappos asking for a pizza…. I’m watching you. :)

My Highest Weight

Today I am going to share with you a very sensitive topic for so many. Myself included. I have come along way and I am going to be completely honest with everything I went through.

I want to take you back to when I think it all began. If you look at the pic to the left, I believe I was about five and I have a belly!!!

I was one of those kids teased in school, couldn’t run well, little lone fast, in gym class, always picked last for what ever team sport we were playing, never ever went to any school dances, not even my Senior Prom. I know it is sad, and I think I am over it now, we shall see…

I didn’t have a boyfriend until I was way into college, and I went to college for several years. Most people that go that long are now called doctors, a doctor I am not. :)

It wasn’t until I moved to Vegas when I was about 25 years old that I had a serious boyfriend. Then I had a few long-term relations. Yet something still wasn’t quite right. I was at my highest weight ever, tried so many diets and I didn’t make anything work. So at that point I had seriously started considering a weight loss surgery.

A friend of mine had a friend that had the surgery and she was doing amazing! (That’s where I got the idea.) She lost so much weight! It was soooo tempting, yet my insurance wouldn’t cover that particular surgery. They would cover another type of surgery. I decided to go for it.

This was me summer 2008, I was 32 years old. This was taken just a few months before my weight loss surgery. The day of my surgery I weighed 331 pounds. I am 6 feet tall, but that was way too much weight.

I was ready, wheel me in!!!

The procedure lasted about 45 mins and I was in my room before I woke up. About an hour after I woke, I had to get up and walk, I took it slow, I had minimal pain and I recovered quickly.

The surgery it self went great. I did have one incident… Two months after my surgery, I passed out. I went to the ER and they said I was dehydrated. Gave me an IV and sent me home. The next morning I passed out again. This time I now know that I had sudden cardiac death. I was out for about 7 mins, (I am told), my eyes rolled into the back of my head, I was shaking, turning purple and lost my bladder. :( I went to the ER again.

After lots of test and seeing doctor after doctor, I was told that I was damn lucky to be alive. I have a genetic heart condition called Pro-long QT. It is when the four chambers of your heart beats and one of them is a slacker, if it slacks to long, it will beat in the next rhythm and throw your heart into arrhythmia.

My bottom two chambers where beating so hard and so fast that no blood was being pumped through my body. Scary, I know. I wore a heart monitor and was in the hospital for 6 days. I left the hospital with a pace maker / defibrillator. Yep, I am 32 years old, it was really hard to understand and accept.

What was the cause? To the best that we can figure out, since my nutrition had changed DRASTICALLY, my potassium levels were low, really low. My heart condition is genetic, so I was born with it, it was in a dormant state. That is until my potassium levels became so low, it came out of the dormant state and decided to make it’s presence known. I take a heart medicine twice a day and potassium once a day and it has been two and a half years, and there has been no shocks! Happy Day!!

Back to the weight loss, all in all I lost 150 pounds! I was a size 28 and I am now a size 16.

Today, I am a size 16, and when I weighed myself this morning it was 201. Not happy about that. That means that since my surgery I lost 150 pounds and gained 20 back. Oh h#LL no!!!

So this is what I am going to do. I am starting a 90 Day Challenge. I received my shakes and have been taking them for two days now. They taste so yummy!!! I also have the energy drink, and mini meal cookies!

I have heard amazing stories of others on this challenge and I can’t wait to see what my results will be!

If you would like more info on my 90 Day Challenge, click here.

I will keep you posted on my daily activities, challenges and success!

Just so ya know, this is what I look like today, let’s make it even better!!!

Beach Money

Beach Money.

What can I say about Beach Money.

What is Beach Money? Money that comes in while you are hanging out at the beach.

That is the simple version.

How do you and I get Beach Money?

Beach Money is residual income. Webster defines residual as : a payment (as to an actor or writer) for each rerun after an initial showing (as of a TV show).

Sounds good to me, I want that, I’m not an actor. Shoot! So how do I get residual income? I could buy a rental property and the renters could pay the mortgage and taxes. I would be responsible for hot water heater replacements and what-not. Real Estate is a great way to create wealth, but I don’t want the responsibility. Let’s keep looking.

Network Marketing. What is Network Marketing? Network Marketing is a way for you and I to build a business with residual income. Residual income = Beach Money!

Imagine taking a 30 year “traditional” career and compressing it into a 3-5 year career. Working your tail off, moving and a shaking, building your business and then being able to step back and still have more money come in than you could imagine, on a monthly basis.

Jordan Adler walks you thru is journey of network marketing failures, and successes. One of the many many great traits of Jordan is that he never stopped. He pressed on regardless and is enjoying the good life, his beach money now.

Beach Money is a quick read and yet jam packed with all kinds of amazing information!!!

Crush It!

What are you passionate about?

Have you ever wondered how to cash in on that passion?

This book will show you how. Gary Vaynerchuk has an amazing story on how he created multiple streams of income from Wine. Yep, wine.

His parents owned a liquor store and when he was old enough to work (not drink) he worked at the store. The most common question from customers was what wine will go with such and such?

Gary educated himself on everything wine. As his wine education grew, he wanted to share his knowledge with more than the customers that came into the store. That is when Gary went online.

Gary is loud, passionate and in your face. He will tell you how it is, no sugar coating it for ya. No matter what your passion is, you can profit from it. Gary shows you how in this book.

Life is too short to be doing something that you are not passionate about. If you are dreading waking up Monday morning and counting down the days until Friday at 5pm, you are not living. Get out of your comfort zone, read this book and do something to change your life!

Yours In Passion,

Jennifer Lee-Jackson
